Since the holidays are right around the corner, we participated in Holiday STEM activities. Activities included building a gumdrop tower, creating a parachute for Santa, and packaging candy canes so they would not break when dropped. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! :)

Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities. Their vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. So, we participated in the Code.org annual Hour of Code today. Using characters from Minecraft, Star-Wars, Moana, Ice Age, and Frozen, we learned how to connect blocks in order to make characters perform certain actions. It is a lot harder than it looks. :)
Chapter Meeting: November 28, 2016
Snap Circuits: In groups of three, we used a snap circuit kit to turn on a light and fan, and make music and sounds. We followed directions for projects in the kit's book and tried some of our own creations.
Chapter Meeting: November 7, 2016
Flextangles and Infinity Tiles: Today we worked on two paper crafts that kept us busy the whole time! Flextangles are paper puzzles that reveal hidden patterns when moved. We used a template to make our designs. Since the Flextangles took us a long time to complete, we had just a little time to work on Infinity Tiles---a puzzle that connects at every point. We will have to try some of our own designs in the future!
Chapter Meeting: October 24, 2016
Halloween STEM: Since next week is Halloween and we will not be meeting, we participated in some Halloween STEM challenges. First up was creating a candy corn tower. Then we had to build a bone bridge and design a Halloween costume for a little cardboard figure. Some challenges seemed to be harder than others. :)
Chapter Meeting: October 17, 2016
Ozobots: After working with cardboard for weeks, it was nice to try something very different. Today, we learned about coding using small robots called Ozobots. Ozobots are programed using colored lines. Red, green, blue, and black markers were used to create paths for our robot to follow. We also used specific codes to make the Ozobot spin, go fast, change color, or go slow.
Chapter Meeting: October 3, 2016
C-A-R-D-B-O-A-R-D: Today was our last meeting before our Second Annual Cardboard Challenge. This was our chance to finish our projects and get them ready for our friends and families. We are so excited!!!
Chapter Meeting: September 26, 2016
Cardboard, Cardboard, and More Cardboard: With our Second Annual Colson Cardboard Challenge coming up, we spent our whole meeting working on our games and creations. So much cardboard, so little time!
Chapter Meeting: September 19, 2016
Caine's Arcade and Cardboard: After watching the video that helped launch the 100 Imagination Foundation Chapters worldwide, we discussed how Caine used his love of arcade games to create amazing cardboard creations. We got some inspiration from the story Not a Box and began working on cardboard creations. With the help of Makedo tools, our creations are starting to take shape!
Chapter Meeting: September 12, 2016
Today was our first meeting. We had two challenges that really made us think! First we had to work as a team using a rubber band and strings to make a cup pyramid. We could NOT use our hands. Our second challenge was to create the tallest freestanding structure using only spaghetti, tape, yarn, and a marshmallow for the top.
